Miami, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Former international soccer star David Beckham’s plan of bringing a Major League Soccer team to Miami is one step closer to completion.
According to newspaper reports, Beckham is in negotiations with Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez over a piece of county-owned land, which he hopes to lease and build a 25,000-seat stadium upon. He is also expected to solicit support from the private sector to fund a new stadium.
While in south Florida this week, Beckham will also meeting with youth players to drum up support for the team.
The MLS will not award Miami a team until the stadium plan is more solid, but it was reported that the event is due to occur in the next few months. At the earliest, Miami would compete in the MLS in 2016.
