Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Actress Zooey Deschanel and designer Tommy Hilfiger have teamed up to launch a capsule collection of flirty, vintage-inspired dresses to be launched in April.

The collection, called “To Tommy, From Zooey,” is composed of 16 dresses designed by both, and named after some of the “New Girl” star’s friends. The dresses are meant to exude Deschanel’s persona, which is both quirky and charming.

Of her new feat, the 34-year-old actress/musician told Women’s Wear Daily, “I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe. Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”

Regarding the design theme, Hilfiger said, “They are Sixties-inspired short dresses. There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the Sixties in London. That’s not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we’d be inspired by the Sixties for the runway, but it’s a new way to look at fun, American classics.”

Aside from dresses, Deschanel is also designing handbags and jewelry for the new line. The dresses are said have a retail price of $99 to $199, most of which will be available in 200 Macy’s stores starting April 14. The entire collection is set for release on April 21 on tommy.com, and in select Hilfiger stores in North America, Europe and Japan.
