Evanston, IL, United States (4E Sports) – Gabriel Olaseni recorded 14 points and 10 boards off the bench to carry No. 10 Iowa to a 76-50 rout of Northwestern Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Roy Devyn Marble poured all of his 14 points in the second half while Mike Gesell added 11 as the Hawkeyes improved to 16-4 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes, who bounced back from a bitter 75-67 loss to No. 25 Michigan Wednesday, will carry the momentum of their win when they take on No. 3 Michigan State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Drew Crawford scored 20 points on 8-for-17 shooting while Tre Demps added 11 off the bench for the Wildcats (10-11, 3-5 Big Ten), who had won three of their last four games while holding those opponents to an average of 51 points.
The Hawkeyes shot 50 percent from the floor as they took a 30-24 halftime lead. Iowa also had a 23-12 rebounding edge with Olaseni corralling six of them.
However, Iowa failed to pull away as their 10 turnovers took away their chances in the first half. Aside from missing three shots, Marble had three turnovers while Aaron White had two turnovers.
Marble bounced back in the second half, scoring seven points in the Hawkeyes’ 11-0 run that gave them a 56-38 lead with 9:16 to play. They later extended the lead to 67-43.
