CLEARFIELD –  The Clearfield Lady Bison basketball team coasted through the first three quarters Thursday night against visiting Central Mountain, building a 37-17 margin en route to a 45-28 victory.

The Lady Bison jumped out to a fast start in the first eight minutes of action to go out in front after one, 13-7.

Second quarter action showed the Lady Wildcats that Clearfield was serious about breaking its seven game losing streak as they outscored Central Mountain 12-4 to take a convincing 25-11 bulge into the intermission.

Sophomore Emily Ryan had a big night for Clearfield, with 14 tallies.  Emily Aveni and Brianna Spencer each had eight, while Maggie Sopic scoring seven and Victoria Ireland scoring six gave the Lady Bison good balance on offense.

Mary Monoski, a Central Mountain sophomore, paced all scorers on the night with 15 points.

Clearfield Head Coach Joey Castagnolo commented afterwards, saying, “It was a very nice team win.  The kids have worked really hard, and they picked up a well deserved victory.  And it was great to have the opportunity use our bench freely tonight.”

The Clearfield junior varsity squad won 49-41 in overtime as Ally Lindstrom with 20 points and Sarah Lash with 14 led the Bison.

The Lady Bison (3-11), hit the road on Friday, traveling to Huntingdon to battle the Lady Bearcats with JV action tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.

Huntingdon won the first game, at Clearfield, back on December 13, 39-23.
