Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Alison Sweeney will be leaving “Days of Our Lives” after 21 years of appearing in the television drama series, the actress announced on Monday.
During an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sweeney said, “I decided that it’s going to be my last year with the show.”
“I’ve been on ‘Days of Our Lives’ since I was 16 years old,” the “Biggest Loser” host added, “and I have never had more than a two-week vacation in that whole time.”
While Sweeney’s departure may come as a surprise to the public, the actress, who plays Sami, said it was something she had to think about. “I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans. I love everything about it. I just work so much and my daughter just turned 5 and my son is 9 and I just want to be with them.”
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old actress said that she has no idea what will happen next to her character on the NBC soap, but expressed that “it would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending, but then, I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like ‘Breaking Bad’ ending.”
After working on two shows for seven years—she joined “Days of Our Lives in 1993 and hosted “The Biggest Loser” since 2007—Sweeney said she’s “really just excited to be with my kids and be with my husband and, I don’t know, have fun.”
Meanwhile, aside from acting, Sweeney has also tried her hand in writing, among other things. She is the author of “All the Days of My Life,” her memoir, which was published in 2005. “My second book’s coming out,” she said. “I love directing and just, you know, finding things to do.”
