Carson City, NV, United States (4E) – An 88-year-old man from Carson City is under arrest for attempted murder after he shot his wife in a hospital room on Sunday.
The shooter, William Dresser, is detained at the Carson City jail and his bail is set at $225,000, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said on Sunday.
Dresser entered the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center around 11:20 a.m. and went to the third floor, where his wife was confined in a rehab unit. There he shot his wife with a .22 caliber handgun.
State correction officers, who were on the same floor at the time, subdued and detained Dresser until police arrived to arrest him, according to Mike Hendi, chief executive officer of ESI Security Services, which provides security service to staff and patients of Carson Tahoe.
The victim suffered a life-threatening wound and was transferred to the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, said Carson Medical Center spokeswoman Cheri Glockner.
The hospital was temporarily placed on lockdown after the shooting and reopened at 1:45 p.m.
