Winnipeg, MB, Canada (4E Sports) – Rookies Jacob Trouba and Mark Scheifele scored all goals for the Winnipeg Jets in a 3-2 overtime win over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday at MTS Centre.
The Oilers’ Jordan Eberle initiated the scoring at 6:59 of the second period with a snap shot, assisted by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall.
Trouba, a 19-year-old defenseman, tied it 1-1 at 5:48 of the third with a short-handed shot.
Then Scheifele, a 20-year-old center, gave the Jets a 2-1 lead midway through the third.
David Perron forced overtime for the Oilers in redirecting Jeff Petry’s point shot with two minutes remaining in regulation.
In overtime, forward Blake Wheeler found Trouba alone in front of the net for the winning goal.
New Jets coach Paul Maurice improved to 3-0 since taking over for fired coach Claude Noel on Jan. 12.
