London, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Manchester United will be without its two top scorers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie when they tangle against Chelsea Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Rooney missed United’s last three matches with a groin injury and has returned to training after a warm-weather break in Egypt. But he is not yet fit enough to play.
“Wayne’s come back, he’s fresh but he’s not ready for Chelsea,” said manager David Moyes. “He’s training, he’s on the grass, doing some running and looking quite good.”
Moyes added that he does not want to put a date on Rooney’s comeback and will just take it bit by bit.
Meanwhile, Van Persie, who has missed United’s last nine games with a thigh problem, is likely to return to training next week.
“He’s a really important player and a player we’ve missed. But he’s getting closer now and most of them are getting closer to fitness, so let’s hope it’s not too long until we get them back,” said Moyes of Van Persie.
