Columbia, SC, United States (4E Sports) – The University of South Carolina has given head football coach Steve Spurrier and his nine assistants a one-year contact extension and salary increases.

“With three-straight top 10 finishes, South Carolina is as good as any program in the country,” athletic director Ray Tanner said in a news release. “The contract raises and extensions for Coach Spurrier and his staff are a reflection of that success and are well-deserved.”

Under the new deal, Spurrier has been given a $700,000 raise, increasing his annual salary to $4 million. He will also remain with the school through the 2018 season.

If the 68-year-old coach decides to retire, the trustees voted for a contract clause that would make Spurrier a special assistant to university President Harris Pastides and Tanner.

Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward’s contract has been extended through the 2016 season, according to the release.

All other assistants — Deke Adams, Kirk Botkin, Grady Brown, Shawn Elliott, G.A. Mangus, Joe Robinson, Everette Sands and Steve Spurrier Jr. — have had their contacts extended through the 2015 season, according to the release.
