Houston high school evacuated over suspected bomb, student arrested

Houston, TX, United States (4E) – Students and staff of the Seven Lakes Junior High School in Katy was evacuated Monday morning after a bomb threat and a suspected explosive device was found inside the campus, the city’s Independent School District (ISD) said.

The Katy ISD also said that a student was taken into custody in connection with the potential bomb attached to a backpack. The backpack was found around 11 a.m. on the east side of the building near the ninth grade center of the school located at 6026 Katy-Gaston Road.

The evacuation was done around 10 a.m. when the suspicious backpack was found. Students and staff of the school building moved to the baseball and football fields before transferring to the stadium, where they can walk home, be picked up by parents or be driven home by school bus starting at 1:30 p.m.

The Houston Police Department bomb squad came to the school to check the suspicious package and similar device inside the school.
