Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Gisele Bundchen has, early in her career, learned to speak English through the music of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, the Brazilian supermodel herself revealed on Monday.
Guesting on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” Bundchen said, “When I came here for the first time, it was kind of challenging because I didn’t speak English and I had to go to castings. I was 16 years old [and] I only spoke Portuguese with a little bit of Spanish.”
She also admitted getting lost going to castings and a lot of misunderstandings due to the language barrier. Asked how she learned, Bundchen said, “My wonderful cassette tapes, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, saved my life!”
The new Pantene ambassador expressed that she found the music beautiful, filled with soft and spoken words. She added, “They were great teachers, so I have to thank them one day if I ever meet them in person. They were very inspiring.”
Bundchen, who is married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, with whom she has two kids, said she divides her time between New York and Boston. Asked if her children speak Portuguese as well, she replied, “Well, my daughter [Vivian] is just one [year old], but Benjamin is 4 and I only speak to him in Portuguese.’”
As for her husband Brady, Bundchen said that while he does not speak Portuguese, he is fluent in two other languages—football and English.
