Houston, TX, United States (4E Sports) – All-Star free-agent reliever Jesse Crain will join the Houston Astros on a one-year deal.
Financial terms were not released.
“He’s somebody that was near the top of our list at the beginning of the offseason,” said Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow.
The right-handed Crain made the All-Star team last season with a 0.74 ERA in 37 appearances for the White Sox, including a streak of 29 straight appearances without allowing a run.
He underwent surgery on the biceps in early October and is set to start a throwing program in the next couple of weeks.
“It’s going well,” Crain said of his rehab. “It’s been 21/2 months so far, and I’m looking forward to starting throwing in about a week or two and kind of go from there. That’ll be a big telltale — how I feel then.”
A University of Houston product, Crain will join Chad Qualls and Matt Albers in a revamped Astros bullpen.
