Ann Arbor, MI, United States (4E Sports) – The 2015 edition of the NHL’s Winter Classic will likely be played at Nationals Park, according to sources.

In September, it was announced that next year’s Jan. 1 outdoor game would be hosted by the Washington Capitals, but the venue was not revealed.

According to sources, NHL officials recently visited three D.C.-area venues — RFK Stadium, FedEx Field and Nationals Park.

The source said the Nationals Park will likely be picked because of possible scheduling issues with FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins.

Also, the Nationals Park is a relatively new venue, making it more attractive to hockey fans.

The NHL has yet to announce an opponent for the Capitals in the 2015 game.
