Stillwater, OK, United States (4E Sports) – Robert Forte and Markel Brown combined for 23 points in the first half as No. 6 Oklahoma State pulled away early en route to an easy 92-66 victory over Robert Morris Monday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Forte finished with 20 points on 5-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc while Brown added 18 as the Cowboys (12-1) notched their fifth straight victory.
Brian Williams contributed 12, Kamari Murphy had a season-high 10 while Le’Bryan Nash and Stevie Clark chipped in nine points each as the Cowboys’ bench outscored their Colonials’ counterparts, 44-31.
The additional firepower from their reserves helped the Cowboys survive a poor performance from leading scorer Marcus Smart, who was held to a season-low seven points, far from his average of 18.9 points per contest.
Karvel Anderson scored 16 points while Anthony Myers-Pate added 10 for the Colonials, who slipped to 5-9 after losing seven of their last nine games.
Overall, the Cowboys shot 32-for-56 for 57.1 percent while the Colonials made just 22 of 61 attempts for 36.1 percent. Oklahoma State also outrebounded Robert Morris, 40-30.
Clark also dished out a career-high nine assists as the Cowboys recorded a season-high 27 assists compared to just 10 dimes by its opponent.
With a 9-of-19 (47.4 percent) performance from long range against the Colonials, Oklahoma State broke a string of six-straight games shooting less than 40 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
Smart scored five straight points as the Cowboys raced to a 9-0 lead in the first half. They doubled their lead to 25-12 midway through the opening half after Nash’s two foul shots before settling for a 46-31 lead at the break.
Late in the second half, the Cowboys extended their lead to its biggest, 89-59.
