Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E Sports) – Outfielder/designated hitter Raul Ibanez passed his physical Friday, thereby making his one-year deal reached on Dec. 18 with the Los Angeles Angels official.
The 41-year-old Ibanez will be paid a base salary of $2.75 million, plus he can earn another $2.25 million in incentives.
“Raul’s veteran presence and left-handed power bring great balance to our lineup,” said Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto.
Last year, Ibanez batted .242/.306/.487 for the Mariners, hitting better against lefties (.802 OPS) than righties (.790).
He hit his 29th homer of the season at Angel Stadium on Sept. 21, tying Ted Williams’ record for the most homers by a 40-and-over player.
Ibanez has 300 career homers and is seven hits shy of becoming the 18th active major leaguer with 2,000 hits.
He is expected to spend the majority of his time at designated hitter while occasionally filling in as a left fielder.
