Detroit, MI, United States (4E Sports) – The Detroit Red Wings revealed that defenseman Jonathan Ericsson fractured two ribs during their Monday’s game against the New York Islanders.

According to Red Wings coach Mike Babcock’s estimate, Ericsson will be sidelined three to five weeks due to the injury.

Ericsson sustained the injury after delivering a hit to Islanders’ Matt Martin. He went to the dressing room during the second period of Detroit’s eventual 3-0 loss.

He did not return and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

Ericsson recently signed a $25.5 million, six-year contract in November.
