UConn bucks poor start to trounce Washington

Seattle, WA, United States (4E Sports) – Shabazz Napier scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half to lead University of Connecticut to an 82-70 victory over University of Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Ryan Boatright had 16 points and five rebounds and Lasan Kromah scored 14 points for UConn.

Washington jumped to a 14-point lead midway through the first half as UConn was missing 3-pointers.

C.J. Wilcox hit two straight 3-pointers to give Washington a 31-17 lead with 7 minutes to go in the first half.

Then UConn (10-1) started aggressively going inside and answered with a 15-2 run.

Ryan Boatright’s jumper tied the game at 35-all before DeAndre Daniel’s layup gave UConn a 39-37 with 1:46 left in the first half.

UConn, which led 43-39 at halftime, started the second half with an 6-0 run to push their lead to 49-39.

A Boatright jumper with 3:20 left gave UConn its biggest lead at 80-66 while Napier’s free throws restored it at 82-68 with 1:08 remaining.

UConn finished 4 of 12 behind the arc and 28 of 51 (54.9 percent) overall from the field.

Wilcox led Washington (6-5) with 19 points and four assists. Darin Johnson had 13 points and Mike Anderson added 10 points.
