Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Tom Cruise has settled the infamous $50 million lawsuit against Bauer Media Group on Friday in California.

Instead of going to court, the actor and the Bauer Publishing Company chose to settle their dispute out of court. The company is responsible for previously published reports hinting that Cruise abandoned his daughter Suri after his divorce with Katie Holmes in 2012.

The 51-year-old actor had reportedly initially asked for a public apology, which the magazines did not grant. Cruise filed the suit on October 24, 2013, and trial was set on June 10, 2013.

A statement given to E! News by Cruise’s attorney Bert Fields confirmed the settlement, and added, “The terms of the settlement were not disclosed and remain confidential. Bauer Publishing, as well as In Touch and Life & Style magazines, never intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter, Suri, and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published.”

Per documents obtained by E! News, Cruise filed the lawsuit on October 24, 2012 and was set for trial on June 10, 2014.
