San Jose, CA, United States (4E Sports) – San Jose Sharks rookie forward Tomas Hertl may possibly miss more than a month due to an injury to his right knee.

He suffered the injury Thursday in the first period against the Los Angeles Kings during a knee-on-knee collision with Kings captain Dustin Brown.

General manager Doug Wilson said there is still some swelling in Hertl’s knee and that while the preliminary report said he’ll be out at least a month, there will be more tests and evaluations that take more time.

“I think right now the prognosis is a month but we are prepared that it could be longer. How much longer, I don’t know,” said Wilson.

He added that he doesn’t know whether Hertl will have to undergo major surgery, but said an MRI has revealed some damage.

Wilson said it’s too early to tell whether Hertl’s injury could be season-ending.

Hertl leads NHL rookies in goals with 15 and points with 25.

He ranks second on the Sharks in goals, one behind Patrick Marleau, and fifth in points.
