Baton Rouge, LA, United States (4E Sports) – Clifton Garrett of Plainfield South in Illinois, the nation’s No. 37 overall and No. 3 inside linebacker, has pledged to LSU over Tennessee, Florida and Ole Miss.
“The game-day atmosphere is amazing and the people down there are great. The school itself has great academics, and LSU is in the running to win a national championship every year,” Garrett said about LSU.
He is LSU’s 16th verbal commitment and 12th among those ranked in the ESPN 300.
Garrett is also the only inside linebacker committed to LSU, which didn’t sign any in its 2013 class.
LSU is the No. 13 class in the ESPN rankings.
Meanwhile, No. 39 Johnnie Dixon, a receiver from Dwyer in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has committed to Ohio State.
He gives the Buckeyes their second top-50 recruit in as many days after No. 12 Raekwon McMillan of Liberty in Hinesville, Ga.
Dixon brings athleticism to the offense and will present matchup problems for opposing Big Ten cornerbacks due to his big size.
“They put it in the playmakers’ hand, and Coach [Urban] Meyer knows what to do with his receivers,” said Dixon.
Dixon is the 19th player overall — and ninth in the ESPN 300 — to commit to Ohio State, which is No. 8 in the ESPN class rankings.
DT Thomas Holley of Lincoln in Brooklyn, N.Y., the nation’s No. 87 recruit, committed to Penn State, while Defensive end Dante Sawyer of North Gwinnett in Suwanee, Ga., the nation’s No. 91 recruit, committed to South Carolina.
