Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – LaQuinton Ross scored a game-high 19 points while Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 14 as No. 3 Ohio State defeated Delaware, 76-64, in Wednesday’s BlackRock Gotham Classic at Value City Arena.
Ross made eight of 13 shots and had six blocks while Smith buried eight of nine foul shots as the Buckeyes (11-0) remained unbeaten.
Aaron Craft added 12 points, Amir Williams had 11 points and 12 boards while Amedeo Della Valle had 10 off the bench for the Buckeyes, who improved to 3-0 overall against the Blue Hens.
The Buckeyes shot just 407 percent from the field, ending a five-game streak of shooting 52 percent or better from the field.
Devon Saddler scored 17 points off the bench while Jarvis Threatt added 14 for the Blue Hens, who dropped to 5-5 after suffering a third straight defeat.
It was a sorry defeat for the Blue Hens, who shot better from the field (43.1 percent) and led by as many as six points early in the first half after a layup by Davon Usher.
The Buckeyes snatched the lead, 21-18, but it was short lived as the Blue Hens scored six straight points for a 24-21 advantage.
Ohio State then finally went to work, outscoring the Blue Hens, 16-2, in the last 4:46 of the first half to take a 37-26 at the break.
In the second, a jumper by Marc Loving and a triple by Dela Valle gave the Buckeyes their biggest lead, 60-46, with 10:27 remaining.
