London, England, United Kingdom (4E Sports) – Ashley Young ended his 19-month scoring drought and assisted on Patrice Evra’s goal as Manchester United advanced to the semifinal of the Capital One Cup via a 2-0 win over Stoke Wednesday at Britannia Stadium.
With the win, Manchester United booked a spot in the last four against Sunderland. In the other semifinal pairing, West Ham United advanced against Manchester City after beating Tottenham Hotspur, 2-1.
First leg ties will be played during the week commencing January 6, 2014 while second leg ties are to be played during week commencing January 20th 2014, according to the Capital One Cup official website.
Young, whose last goal came in May 2012, lashed home what turned into a lay-off by substitute Javier Hernandez from 20 yards in the 62nd minute.
Sixteen minutes later, Young threaded a pass through for Evra to strengthen David Moyes’ chance to land his first silverware since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm.
In the other game, West Ham came from behind to claim a second successive win at White Hart Lane via a 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur, which played its first game under new mentor Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood took over after the team fired Andre Villas-Boas as manager after an 18-month stint as skipper.
The Spurs grabbed the lead behind Emmanuel Adebayor’s goal in the 67th minute but Matt Jarvis scored 10 minutes from time to tie the game.
Then, Modibo Maiga headed in an 85th-minute winner to send the Hammers to the semifinal.
