Austin, TX, United States (NewsBahn) – Texas football coach Mack Brown is expected to step down by the end of the week, according to reports.
The 16-year coach is currently on the recruiting trail and denied he’s stepping down but is said to be disappointed by the leaks.
“I know Mack, he’s a friend, this is his decision, but he wants to tell his players and staff and not read it on the Internet,” the source told ESPN. “That’s why he reacted strongly to the [Orangebloods.com] report.
“I’d be real surprised if it hasn’t happened by Friday night with the [Texas] football banquet. I think it will be taken care of. It wouldn’t drag on much longer.”
School officials deny Brown is on the way out, however.
In a statement, athletics director Steve Patterson said: “We continue to discuss the future of Texas Football. Mack Brown has not resigned. And, no decisions have been made.”
