Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Disney’s newest animated flick “Frozen” has topped this weekend’s charts grossing $31.6 million, pushing “The Hunger Games Catching Fire” into the second spot.
Grossing $134.3 million only 12 days after release, “Frozen” has gathered over $31.6 million in sales this week, making it the highest post-Thanksgiving gross ever, according to Box Office Mojo.
Said to be loosely based on Hand Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen,” Disney’s “Frozen” follows the life of young princess Elsa and her journey as she searches for her estranged sister, Anna, who has the power to manipulate cold and ice.
Directed by Chris buck and Jennifer Lee, “Frozen” features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad.
Meanwhile, following “Frozen” on the top five films this weekend are “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” Christian bale starrer “Out of the Furnace,” “Thor: The Dark World” and the Vince Vaughn comedy “Delivery Man.”
