Arlington, TX, United States (4E Sports) – Kenny Cherry had 18 points and ignited a late rally as the No. 20 Baylor Bears edged the Kentucky Wildcats 67-62 Friday at AT&T Stadium.
Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson had 13 points each while Rico Gathers had 13 rebounds for Baylor.
Baylor (8-1) started strong with a 16-7 lead following a Jefferson dunk and a jumper by Cherry.
But Aaron Harrison connected on three 3-point jumpers while Julius Randle had four points in a 15-7 run by Kentucky (7-2) to cut the lead to 23-22.
Kentucky capped the half with five points from Aaron’s twin, Andrew Harrison, to take the half at 38-33.
Julius Randle had slam dunk with 13 minutes left to give Kentucky a 50-41 lead.
But Baylor responded with a 15-5 run started by Kenny Chery’s jumper.
Cherry’s two free throws with six minutes left gave the Bears a 56-55 lead and they never trailed again.
James Young’s 3-pointer with just more than three minutes left got Kentucky within 61-60.
Back-to-back jumpers by Cherry and Royce O’Neale gave Baylor a 65-61 lead with 43 seconds left.
Randle had 16 points for Kentucky while Aaron Harrison had 15 and Young 14 with four 3-pointers.
