NY, NY, United States (NewsBahn) – Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was slapped with a $100,000 fine for interfering with a kickoff return in Thursday night’s game vs. the Baltimore Ravens.
Tomlin took a step onto the field during Jacoby Jones’ kickoff return and NFL officials said he should have been flagged with a penalty at the time, as well.
Tomlin appeared to be contrite about the matter Tuesday, but said he didn’t mean to affect the play during his team’s 22-20 loss.
“As I stated yesterday, I take full responsibility for my actions, and I apologize for causing negative attention to the Pittsburgh Steelers organization,” Tomlin said in a statement. “I accept the penalty that I received. I will no longer address this issue as I am preparing for an important game this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.”
The league is also said to be mulling a loss of draft picks for the team.
