Tuczon, AZ, United States (4E Sports) – Forward Brandon Ashley had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Arizona Wildcats ripped the Texas Tech Red Raiders 79-58 Tuesday at McKale Center.
Rookie Aaron Gordon led Arizona with 19 points while also grabbing eight boards as Nick Johnson scored 18 points with four 3-pointers on six attempts .
Arizona (8-0) scored the first 10 points of the game.
Leading 35-25 at halftime, Arizona opened the second half with a 12-2 run to get a 47-27 with 16:35 to go.
Arizona went up by as many as 23 points, 79-56, with 35 seconds left in the game.
A layup by Clarence Lammert of Texas Tech just before the game ended settled the final score.
“No question we could have played better at times,” said Arizona coach Sean Miller. “But it’s a long season and it’s difficult to ask for perfection in every game from start to finish.”
Kader Tapsoba and Jaye Crockett scored 11 points each for the Red Raiders (6-3), and Aaron Ross added 10.
