Detroit, MI, United States (4E) – Highland Park, Mich. Mayor Deandre Windom was accidentally shot in the leg during an altercation by bouncers and an unruly patron at a nightclub early Sunday morning.

Windom was initially listed in serious condition at the Detroit Receiving Hospital but is now well, Highland Park City Council President Christopher Woodard said, according to Detroit Free Press.

The incident happened at the Key Club on 1400 block of Franklin shortly before 2 a.m., according to Detroit police spokeswoman Kelly Miner. The mayor was a bystander when the bouncer escorting a patron out of the club got into a fight.

The patron pulled out a gun, which went off hitting Windom in the leg. Miner said Windom was not involved in the dispute between the bouncers and the 25-year-old patron from Eastpointe, who was arrested and detained.

An investigation is determining if the gun was fired or went off during the struggle between the patron and the bouncers.

Windom, the husband of actress Yo-Yo, has been mayor since 2012.
