Atlanta, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Al Horford had 22 points and 16 rebounds to lift the Atlanta Hawks over the Toronto Raptors 102-95 Friday at Philips Arena.
Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver added 17 points apiece, while Paul Millsap had 15 for the Hawks.
The game was close early in the first half, with the margin ranging from one to four points.
Pero Antic hit a three-pointed and Jeff Teague connected for two points as the Hawks padded their lead to 49-39 at the end of the half.
The Hawks poured it on with Kyle Korver hitting two 3-pointers midway in the third as they built a 70-52.
The Raptors inched closer with DeMar DeRozan scoring on a 20-foot jumper followed by a layup to make it 88-83 with less than five minutes left.
But the Hawks doused the rally to lead 93-84 with 3:22 remaining.
“They made me really sweat there at the end,” quipped new Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer, a long-time assistant in San Antonio.
Seven of the 12 players who suited up Friday were making their home debuts in an Atlanta uniform.
DeMar DeRozan had 31 points, including 23 over the final two quarters for the Raptors.
