Miami, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Starting offensive tackle Jonathan Martin has left the Miami Dolphins after suffering what was described as “emotional breakdown” following an incident at the team’s cafeteria.
According to NFL.com, Martin was the victim of a prank at the cafeteria, becoming enraged enough to “smash his food tray on the ground.” A source said Martin’s fellow offensive linemen were behind the incident.
Martin is listed on the team’s injury report with an illness.
Sources were unsure whether Martin would return. Backup right tackle Tyson Clabo is expected to start in Martin’s place.
Martin, a former Stanford product, was a 2012 second-round pick of the Dolphins. He has started every game for Miami this season. He spent the first six games at left tackle and one at right tackle.
