Orlando, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Brian Roberts scored 21 points off the bench as the New Orleans Pelicans pulled away in the third on the way to a 101-82 win over the Orlando Magic in their preseason finale Friday at Amway Center.
Roberts made seven of 11 attempts, including four of five shots from beyond the arc, as the Pelicans finished the preseason with a Western Conference-best 7-1 record.
Eric Gordon scored 12 points, Al-Farouq Aminu added 11 while Anthony Morrow had 10 for the Pelicans. Last year’s top rookie pick Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday added nine points apiece.
Manny Harris tallied 12 points while rookie Victor Oladipo and Nikola Vucevic had 10 points each for the Magic, who finished their preseason campaign with a 2-6 mark.
With Vucevic, Solomon Jones and Romero Osby grabbing seven boards each, the Magic outrebounded the Pelicans, 45-35, including 20 on the offensive end.
However, the Pelicans made up for it by shooting 35-for-67 from the field for 52.2 percent and 11-for-18 from beyond the arc for 61.1 percent compared to the Magic’s 34.9 percent performance from the floor.
The Pelicans grabbed a 31-21 lead after the first period but the Magic closed the second quarter with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 45-all at the break.
In the third, the Pelicans outscored the Magic, 15-5, in the first five minutes to take a 60-50 lead and control of the game.
The Magic begin their regular-season campaign Tuesday against the Indiana Pacers. The Pelicans, for their part, take on the Pacers Wednesday.
