San Francisco, CA, United States (4E) – Google may soon find itself some competition against its wearable glasses device. Samsung has filed a patent for a wearable device that looks very similar to the Google Glass — except with a sporty twist. The patent clearly means Samsung isn’t working with Google on the project.
Samsung’s Glasses project is its second venture into wearable gadgets. It released the Galaxy Gear smartwatch recently.
“This design is of a type [of glasses] with earphones integrated, allowing [users] to take phone calls and listen to music during workouts,” according to the patent files filed by Samsung, according to Wall Street Journal.
The patent reveals that Samsung glasses project has earphones integrated into the device, which will allow users to take calls and listen to music. The lens will be able to reveal any new messages and alerts on the user’s smartphone.
Samsung’s project is different from Google Glass because of its emphasis on a sporty lifestyle. Users should be able to comfortably use it to while jogging and working out.
“For a considerable while, smartphones and wearables will co-exist,” JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile Communications said at a press conference in Seoul.
