Millington, TN, United States (4E) – An employee of the National Guard Armory in Millington, Tennessee shot and wounded two co-workers Thursday afternoon triggering the lockdown of a nearby naval base.
The shooter was subdued by National Guardsmen and later turned over to police, officials said. The two victims were taken to The MED for treatment of non-life threatening injuries in the leg and foot.
The shooting took place in a building on Attu west of Hornet on the north side of Navy Road, a non-secured part of the Naval Support Activity Mid-South. A warning for the base’s estimated 8,000 employees to shelter in place or go into the nearest building was heard through a public address system and sent out on computers at 12:45 p.m.
Civilian Department of Defense officers and Navy Masters at Arms made rounds to check the safety and account for employees.
Some 100 golfers at the Glen Eagle Golf Course in Millington stopped playing in a tournament and locked themselves in the clubhouse at 1:20 p.m. The shooting happened less than half a mile from the sixth hold of the golf course, which sits on federal property.
