Buffalo, NY, United States (4E Sports) – Buffalo Sabres left wing John Scott will personally face the NHL Department of Player Safety for his illegal check to the head of Boston Bruins forward Loui Eriksson during their Wednesday’s game at First Niagara Center.
Scott was offered an in-person hearing as required by provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for any suspension that can exceed five games.
Illegal checks to the head are being considered for supplemental discipline but the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
The incident happened at 5:49 of the third period when Scott came across the ice and hit Eriksson in the neutral zone after Eriksson had moved the puck.
Scott received a match penalty for illegal check to the head, as well a five-minute fighting major for an altercation with Boston’s Adam McQuaid that followed the play. Eriksson received assistance leaving the ice and did not return.
The Bruins announced after the game that he would be staying in Buffalo overnight for observation, but was expected to return to Boston Thursday. Boston won the game 5-2.
