Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – After watching several games during Ohio State’s weekend rest, Buckeyes head football coach Urban Meyer said he’s satisfied with the way his unbeaten team is keeping up with competition.
“You start wondering where you stack up, then click right back in and start worrying about your own business,” Meyer said. “I think we’re right there. I think we’re a good team.”
However, Meyer said there are aspects that need improvement, especially the team’s explosive plays and alarming pass defense that gave up several big plays the past two games in wins over Wisconsin and Northwestern.
“Where are we? I don’t know.” Meyer said. “We’re doing the best we can to get first downs and stop people.”
The Buckeyes (6-0), ranked No. 3 in the coaches’ poll, resume their campaign Saturday when they host Iowa (4-2), whom Meyer thinks has the best defensive front four they have seen this season.
“We’ve been in here for two weeks trying to find ways to run the ball against this defense,” Meyer said.
Meanwhile, Meyer revealed that starting middle linebacker Curtis Grant will be available Saturday despite the death of his father.
Meyer also said that defensive lineman Tommy Schutt is “a go” for Saturday. He missed the first half of the regular season after suffering a broken bone in a foot.
