Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Charlie Hunnam has backed out from his supposed role as Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades film, Universal Pictures announced.
In a statement the company said, “The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule, which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
However, multiple sources assert that Hunnam, 37, although he had no qualms in portraying the mysterious Grey, opted out due to the heavy outpour of attention and pressure from the media and fans.
Meanwhile, Fifty Shades author E. L. James, shows she has no bad feelings upon the “Sons of Anarchy” star’s dropping out. She wrote on Twitter, “I wish Charlie all the best.”
Fifty Shades of Grey, which is scheduled to begin production in November, is set for release on August 1, 2014.
