Lexington, KY, United States (4E Sports) – T. J. Yeldon and Kenyan Drake rushed for two touchdowns apiece while AJ McCarron tossed for a career-high 359 yards and a score as No. 1 Alabama remained unblemished with a 48-7 win over Kentucky Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
Yeldon recorded 124 yards on 16 carries, Drake tallied 106 yards on 14 rushes while Altee Tenpenny added a rushing score as the Crimson Tide improved to 6-0 (3-0 SEC).
McCarron completed 21 of 35 passes and found Kevin Norwood for his only scoring strike in the game as Alabama produced two 100-yard rushing performances and a 300-yard passer in the same game for the first time in school history.
Yeldon and Drake became the 16th Crimson Tide duo to surpass the century mark in the same game while Alabama tied a school record for first downs in a game with 35, equaling the mark set against Western Carolina in 2007.
Alabama offense churned out 668 total yards and its suffocating defense, led by linebacker C.J. Mosley’s seven tackles, limited Kentucky to 170 total yards (94 rushing, 76 passing). The Crimson Tide controlled the ball for 35 minutes, 59 seconds on the night.
Maxwell Smith completed seven of 16 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown while Raymond Sanders ran for 72 yards on 14 carries for the Wildcats, who dropped to 1-5 (0-3 SEC).
With Yeldon and Drake dominating the ground game, the Crimson Tide raced to a 31-0 lead before Smith finally put the Wildcats on the board with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Javess Blue in the third.
However, the Crimson Tide capped the victory with Cade Foster’s 20-yard field goal, McCarron’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Norwood and Tenpenny’s seven-yard scoring rush.
