Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Actor Tom Hanks, during an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday to promote his new film “Captain Phillips,” has revealed that he has type 2 diabetes.
The revelation occurred after Letterman commented on Hanks’ slimmer physique. The award-winning actor expressed that he has been battling high blood sugar since he was 36 years old.
And his doctor told him, “You’ve graduated. You’ve got type 2 diabetes, young man.” He then told the show’s host, “It’s controllable… Something’s going to kill us all, Dave.”
Hanks then said that his doctor told him that if he could “weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you will essentially be completely healthy and will not have type 2 diabetes,” to which he replied to the doctor, “Well, I’m gonna have type 2 diabetes.”
He said that while he is working on his weight and fitness now, he cannot pull his weight down to what is used to be in high school, which was a little under a hundred pounds. “I was a very skinny boy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hanks new film, “Captain Phillips,” is set to hit theaters this Friday.
