Detroit, MI, United States (NewsBahn) – The Detroit Tigers held off the Oakland A’s 8-6 in Tuesday’s game four of the ALCS, forcing a fifth and deciding game in the series.
The Tigers trailed 3-0 and 4-3 but erased both deficits on the strength of homers by Jhonny Peralta and Victor Martinez.
Detroit scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined to take control of the contest.
Martinez had three hits, while starter Doug Fister tossed six innings of three-run ball. Max Scherzer picked up his second win of the series with two frames of one-run ball. He struggled though in allowing five baserunners, including three hits.
Sean Doolittle took the loss for the A’s, allowing a pair of runs in just 2/3 innings of work.
Jed Lowrie gave the A’s a 3-0 lead with an RBI single in the first and a two-run homer in the fifth.
