Spencer Hawes’ foul shots carry Sixers past Bilbao

Bilbao, Spain (4E Sports) – Spencer Hawes sank two pressure-packed foul shots with 4.8 seconds remaining to lift the Philadelphia 76ers to a 106-104 victory over Bilbao Basket in Sunday’s preseason game at Bizkaia Arena.

Hawes drew a foul from Antanas Kavaliauskas and calmly sank two charity shots for a two-point cushion. Bilbao had a chance to steal the win but Raul Lopez missed a three-pointer as the final buzzer sounded.

Evan Turner scored 25 points on 7-for-15 shooting with five rebounds and three assists while Tony Wroten scored 16 points off the bench for the Sixers, who notched their first preseason victory.

James Anderson added 15 points, Thaddeus Young had 14 and Darius Morris had 12 for the Sixers. Hawes, for his part, finished with six points and six boards.

Dairis Bertans scored 19 points while Axel Hervelle and Roger Grimau added14 apiece for Bilbao, which led by as many as five midway through the first period.

Hervelle also grabbed 14 boards while Lopez and German Gabriel tallied 11 points apiece for the Spanish club.

Grimau sank two foul shots to give Bilbao a 93-88 lead with 6:29 left but the Sixers launched a 16-2 blast to take a 104-95 lead.

However, Bilbao launched a 9-0 blast Gabriel and Lopez to tie the game at 104-all.
