Boulder, CO, United States (4E Sports) – Sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota tossed five touchdown heaves and rushed for two more as No. 2 Oregon cruised past Colorado, 57-16, Saturday at Folsom Field.
Mariota connected 16 of his 27 passes for 355 yards and rushed seven times for 43 yards as the Ducks improved to 5-0 (2-0 Pac-12).
Mariota also issued two touchdown passes apiece to Bralon Addison and Josh Huff while Keanon Low caught another.
Addition caught five passes for 158 yards, Huff recorded 103 yards on five receptions while Byron Marshall led the rushing corps with 122 yards on 23 rushes for Oregon.
Connor Wood hit just 11 of 33 passes for 205 yards with two interceptions while wide receiver Paul Richardson tossed a 75-yard touchdown pass to D.D. Goodson for the Buffaloes, who slipped to 2-2 (0-2 Pac-12) after a second straight loss.
Richardson also caught five passes for 134 yards while Christian Powell rushed for 78 yards on 20 carries for Colorado, which took the lead twice in the first period.
Will Oliver scored on a 33-yard field goal to put the Buffaloes ahead before the Ducks took an 8-3 lead behind Mariota’s two-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion by Pharaoh Brown.
Richardson then completed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Goodson to put the Buffaloes ahead anew, 10-3. Tyner then completed a short two-yard scoring rush to give the Ducks the lead for good.
Later in the first, Mariota completed two touchdown passes to Addison and Lowe as the Ducks pulled away for good.
In the second, Oliver buried back-to-back field goals from 22 and 31 yards, respectively, but Mariota rushed for a one-yard score and completed a four-yard touchdown heave to Huff for a 43-16 lead at the break.
