Brantford, ON, Canada (4E Sports) – Brantford police are examining videotape forwarded to them of Monday’s overnight vandalism to a pair of bronze monuments of hockey great Wayne Gretzky.
The culprits apparently couldn’t wait to deface the statues with spray paint, which were unveiled just Sunday outside the newly renovated Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.
The statues depict Gretzky holding the Stanley Cup over his head in victory, and as a youth flanked by his parents, Walter and Phyllis.
Brantford Mayor Chris Friel called the vandalism “disgraceful” and a “crime against the community.”
No arrests have been made.
City workers went to work Tuesday morning, scrubbing paint from the monuments.
