Tampa, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Stephen Morris threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore rusher Dallas Crawford ran for a score as No. 15 Miami (FL) cruised past South Florida, 49-31, Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.
Morris completed 11 of 16 passes before he limped off the field due to a lingering ankle injury in the second period. He was replaced by Ryan Williams, who hit eight of 14 for 153 yards and a score as the Hurricanes improved to 4-0.
Crawford ran 13 times for 34 yards, sophomore rusher Duke Johnson tallied 84 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown for the eighth consecutive game while Stacy Coley caught four passes for 96 yards and two scores for the Hurricanes.
Steven Bench completed 13 of 27 passes for 189 yards with a touchdown and an interception as the winless Bulls suffered their fourth straight loss.
Marcus Shaw recorded 127 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, Andre Davis caught five passes for 75 yards and Julius Forte intercepted Gray Crow’s pass for an 11-yard touchdown for the Bulls.
Overall, the Hurricanes garnered 540 total yards – 375 passing and 165 rushing – while the Bulls recorded just 288 yards.
Crawford completed a seven-yard touchdown run after a seven-play, 77-yard drive to give the Hurricanes the early lead but Shaw responded with a short scoring run of his own to tie the game.
Then, Morris found Herb Waters for a 19-yard touchdown pass and connected with Coley for a 34-yard scoring strike to put the Hurricanes ahead, 21-8, heading into the second quarter.
In the second, Jimmy Gaines returned a fumble for a touchdown and Johnson added a short four-yard touchdown run for a 35-7 halftime lead.
In the third, the Hurricanes made it a 49-7 game after Williams’ 11-yard touchdown pass to Coley and Crawford’s second touchdown rush of the game.
