Tampa Bay, FL, United States (4E Sports) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman wants out after head coach Greg Schiano downplayed his abilities to lead the team to win.
Freeman lost his starting job to rookie Mike Glennon Wednesday after completing less than 50 percent of his passes during the Bucs’ 0-3 start.
He was not also re-elected as team captain this season after being one the previous three years.
“Obviously the head coach [Greg Schiano] has come out and said that this isn’t the place for me to be a starting quarterback. He doesn’t think that I give this team the best chance to win, ” said Freeman.
He is the franchise leader in touchdown passes with 80 but has only two TD passes to three interceptions this season.
Freeman described a trade as “probably the best option”. He is in the last season of his rookie contract and would consider restructuring the final year of the deal.
Theere are reports the Minnesota Vikings are lookinng to trade for him as their starting quarterback Christian Ponder is battling a rib injury.
The fact that Freeman is in the final year of his rookie deal could cause other teams to shy away as he could be acquired in the offseason without giving up much.
