Atlanta, GA, United States (4E Sports) – Logan Thomas tossed a scoring strike and ran for another to lead Virginia Tech to a 17-10 victory over Georgia Tech in Thursday’s ACC showdown at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Thomas completed 19 of 25 passes for 221 yards and rushed 58 yards on 16 carries as the Hokies (4-1) clinched a fourth straight win after losing their opening game to No. 1 Alabama.
The Hokies, who donned the new Hokie Stone helmet design, are now 8-3 against the Yellow Jackets, who slipped to 3-1 (2-1 ACC). The Hokies have won six of the last seven against Georgia Tech.
Demitri Knowles caught five passes for 67 yards while D.J. Coles tallied 32 yards on two receptions, including a 21-yard touchdown catch in the first period.
Vad Lee hit just seven of 24 passes for 144 yards and had two interceptions while David Sims rushed for 37 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown for the Yellow Jackets.
After recording 324 rushing yards in their 28-20 win over North Carolina, the Yellow Jackets were limited to just 129 yards on 42 carries.
Robert Godhigh, who rushed for 100 yards on nine carries against the Tar Heels, was limited to four yards on four carries.
Thomas put the Hokies on the board early with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Coles after a 2-play, 27-yard drive.
In the second, Thomas made it a two-touchdown game after capping a 10-play, 91-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run before the Yellow Jackets put three points on the board with a 49-yard field goal from Harrison Butker.
Sims made it a 14-10 game with a two-yard touchdown run but Cody Journell’s 39-yard field goal secured the win for the Hokies.
