Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer while Danny Salazar (2-3) struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings to lead the Cleveland Indians past Chicago White Sox, 7-2, Wednesday at Progressive Field.
Asivail Garcia initiated the scoring by homering for the White Sox for a 1-0 lead.
But the Indians, scored two unearned runs in the second to grab the lead at 2-1.
In the fifth Brantley doubled with one out and Swisher followed with a two-run shot off Dylan Axlerod (4-11) to push the Indians lead to 4-1.
In the sixth, Danny Salazar gave up a pair of singles against and was replaced by Bryan Shaw.
Dayan Viciedo followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2. But Shaw struck out Jordan Danks and Marcus Semien.
Drew Stubbs’ sacrifice fly in the sixth pushed the Indians lead up to 5-2 before Asdrubal Cabrera’s two-run single in the seventh settled the final score.
The Indians, who last made the playoffs in 2007, have won their final six home games and tightened their grip on one of the AL’s two wild-card playoff spots.
The win was also the Indians 14th straight over the White Sox.
