NY, NY, United States (NewsBahn) – Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson has been suspended for the first 10 games of the regular season for his role in Sunday’s preseason brawl vs. the Buffalo Sabres Sunday.
Clarkson was part of an illegal line change to take part in the altercation.
Clarkson will lose just under $270,000 for the ban and can return to action October 25 for the Leafs game vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was assessed a game misconduct penalty under rule 70.6.
The rule states: “A game misconduct penalty shall be imposed on the player who was the first or second player to leave the players’ or penalty bench during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation, from either or both teams.”
