Columbus, OH, United States (4E Sports) – Kenyan Drake scored on an early 3-yard touchdown and blocked a punt that set up Dillon Lee for another field goal as No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide ripped the Colorado State Rams 31-6 Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Tide (3-0) never looked back after taking 14-0 lead, although they managed only one offensive touchdown and failed on all six third-down attempts through three quarters.
Jared Roberts kicked field goals of 45 and 31 yards to cut the Tide’s lead to 17-6 in the third quarter.
Coached by former Tide offensive coordinator Jim McElwain, the Rams (1-3) still hoped for an upset going into the fourth.
But Trey DePriest stripped the ball from quarterback Garrett Grayson and recovered the fumble early in the quarter. AJ McCarron then doused the Rams’ hopes by hitting DeAndrew White with a perfect strike for a 30 yard touchdown.
Alabama backup quarterback Blake Sims hit Chris Black for a 14-yard touchdown and Adam Griffith’s extra point settled the fianl score.
McCarron, who was in for most of the series, completed 20 of 26 passes for 258 yards.
T.J. Yeldon ran seven times for 49 yards while Christion Jones caught nine passes for 90 yards.
Grayson completed 24 of 38 passes for 228 yards for the Rams, who managed just 51 yards on the ground.
Rashard Higgins had seven catches for 71 yards and Joe Hansley gained 82 on six receptions.
