Philadelphia, PA, United States (4E Sports) – Billy Lange is leaving his post as Villanova Wildcats associate head coach to become the Philadelphia 76ers’ assistant for player development.
He joins a new core of assistants in coach Brett Brown’s coaching staff, namely: Chad Iske (formerly of the Denver Nuggets), Lloyd Pierce (Memphis Grizzlies) and Greg Foster (University of Texas at El Paso).
Lange had earlier refused an offer to coach the Houston Rockets’ Development League affiliate.
The 41-year-old Lange adds to the turnover on Wildcats’ basketball staff, which has been constant the last few years.
He was in his second stint as a staff under coach Jay Wright with the Wildcats, having been the director of basketball operations from 2001 to 2004, before becoming the head coach at Navy for seven.
Lange rejoined Villanova as an assistant two years ago and is credited for helping the Wildcats get back at the NCAA tournament this past season with his strong recruiting efforts.
Lange’s other coaching stops were at Bishop Eustace (head coach), Philadelphia University (assistant), La Salle (assistant) and the United States Merchants Marines Academy (head coach).
