Tuscaloosa., AL, United States (4E Sports) – Alabama suspended running back T.J. Yeldon for mocking Texas A&M Johnny Manziel in their game Saturday by flashing a “money” symbol with his fingers and giving a throat slash gesture.
The school-imposed suspension will last for a quarter in Saturday’s game against Colorado State, who will come to Tuscaloosa as 39-point underdogs.
Manziel uses the money symbol by rubbing his thumbs and forefingers together after big plays.
Yeldon received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his gestures.
“That is not the way I want to represent myself, my family and our team. That is not the way we do things at Alabama,” said Yeldon in a statement apologizing for his actions.
After the A&M game, Alabama coach Nick Saban criticized Yeldon’s actions.
“That’s not us. That’s not our program,” said Saban. “We’ve never ever tolerated and we’ve never ever had it.”
